We have had quite a time with Chance's transition to his toddler bed! Chance has always been a fan of his crib. When he would get tired he would walk over to his crib and want in. It all began with Chance's little stint at preschool....I was told he tired to climb out of the bed when he was settled in for his nap but I didn't think much of it. The beds are quite scary looking! After his first bout with the stomach bug is when "it" all began which was the first week of school. I put him down for his nap in his crib one day and he flipped out (and I mean flipped out!) He would throw himself over the edge and land on his head and run around his room like he had lost his mind. He did this repeatedly for about four times and I decided he really was going to hurt himself. I laid on the floor next to his crib as he went to sleep over the next two days! I was hoping it was just separation anxiety from preschool and that he would get over it. He didn't! We decided that Ben and I couldn't risk injury because we had to constantly be on monitor duty even in the middle of the night if we weren't there we would flip out and bale out of the crib! We tried to hype up the fact his new bed (mattress on the floor until we could convert sister's crib) would be on the floor so he didn't have to be scared! He choose to sleep by the door instead after hysterically crying for a while! After a few nights we finally got the big boy toddler bed in his room and we just knew he would like it! OH NO! Sleeping right by the door continued! He did this for about two months! He would literally tell us goodnight for nap or nighttime and shut his door and lay by the door! It was so sad! I even caught a picture of his little hand sticking out! I honestly thought he would NEVER get back in his bed! Well I resorted to bribery! Chance adores Toy Story so I promised him Buzzlightyear if he could sleep in his bed. This lasted one night and back on the floor after he got Buzz!! (smart kiddo!) I finally told him if he could sleep three nights in a row (I got smarter) he could have Woody! And it worked! Our little guy finally will sleep in his bed! (it has now been about three weeks) If you are still reading good for you! I just want to remember what an ordeal it was!
